Successful sustaining evidence-based falls prevention programs is dependent on several key factors including:
- Instructor readiness and competence
- Site and organizational readiness
- Older adult participant recruitment and referrals
- Program participant retention
- Sustainability planning
Dawna has extensive experience assisting many different community-based organizations throughout the northeast in developing and supporting TJQMBB Implementation. Dawna led a team at Dartmouth Health in developing a TJQMBB implementation workshop, training community-based organizations in an adapted CDC based falls risk screening program proven effective in participant recruitment and identifying strategies for effective referral pathways from healthcare organizations to community-based organizations.
BALANCE DAY TRAINING (3.5 hours)
- Instruction in procedure and guidance on using our Dartmouth’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved, community-based STEADI (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries) algorithm,
- principles of motivational interviewing and strategies for educating participants on their fall risk
- Coaching participants in evidence-based, best fit programs utilizing Motivational Interviewing
- Interactive and didactic components, demonstration, and active role-play activities.
- Adapted for remote delivery
IMPLEMENTATION WORKSHOP (4 hours)
- Based in implementation science, builds on Dartmouth’s personal experience delivering
- evidence-based interventions
- Workshop topics include instructor and site readiness, participant
- recruitment and retention and program sustainability.
- Includes brainstorming activity, an interactive didactic component and active goal setting and planning for program implementation.
- The Implementation Workshop, open to trained TJQMBB Instructors and all individuals involved with program delivery within an organization
- Organizations completing this training have more than doubled the rate of participant completion
FIDELITY CHECKS
- Dawna will provide an observational visit (through zoom) to an Instructor’s class to perform a Fidelity Check. Dr. Li has developed a check list, shared at the 2-Day training, that is designed to assist the instructor in delivering the class with fidelity to achieve the desired outcomes
- Dawna will share the results with the Instructor in written format and in a brief discussion following the Fidelity Check
- One Fidelity Check is included in the cost for all who are trained as TJQMBB Instructors.
